Eco-Design Interns

Eco-Design interns do a little bit of everything on their way to learning how to be an Eco-Designer. These are paid positions and typically lead to full-time long term employment.

Remodeling Eco-Designers / Interior Designers

Attention to detail is a must as these details are what set us apart from our competitors. A key skill is the ability to not only design a space that is aesthetically pleasing and functionally works (usually in a tight space), but deliver the necessary details (product specs, supplier information, lead times, color choices, etc.) in a logical manner so The Natural Built Home Store can execute the design in a time and cost effective manner.

This position is responsible for working with existing remodeling customers to help clients make design decisions on room layout and selections on interior finishes, fixtures, textures, and colors. Typical remodeling projects include kitchens, bathrooms, basements, attic suites, additions, whole house projects, and other miscellaneous remodeling projects. The Natural Built Home Store works primarily on older homes in the city. Additional responsibilities include working in the showroom to handle walk-in traffic, in-home visits, budgetary estimate creation and presentation, scope of work creation, estimating, and preparing a project for the handoff to production. We are looking for designers who are responsive, efficient, energetic, outgoing, and motivated. Proficiency in Chief Architect and Excel a plus. Compensation varies from hourly to commission and hybrid structures.

Office People

With experience in remodeling or construction related field, primary duties would be to assist with Human Resources (Cobra, Health Insurance, hiring/firing paperwork), Bookkeeping (AR, AP, tax reporting, liens, weekly reports), Administrative Assistant / Marketing (working to assist the owner), Trade Partner / Vendor Relations (insurance compliance and record keeping).

Project Managers

We employ highly organized detailed individuals with a deep knowledge and understanding of many facets and trades of residential remodeling. Technical skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and professional communication skills are a must. This position is responsible for working directly with clients through the remodeling project. Duties include picking and delivering materials, meeting building inspectors for inspections, checking on job sites and cleaning up, obtaining permits, meeting Trade Partners and Employees on site and review their work, lots of client communication throughout the production process, and other miscellaneous tasks. The Natural Built Home Store works primarily on older homes in the city. Qualified applicants will have an appreciation for older homes and hopefully an understanding of building/ remodeling techniques. Apprentices

Are you hardworking, dependable, tough, and eager to learn more about building and remodeling. We are looking for young hard workers to train and grow.

Carpenter

We are seeking hard working, experienced trades people with experience in residential remodeling. Framing, trim carpentry, cabinet install, tile, and flooring install experience are a plus.

Lead Carpenter

We are seeking hard working, experienced trades people with experience leading a residential remodeling team. Experience with framing, trim carpentry, cabinet install, tile, and all other trades are a plus. The ability to lead and manage a crew is the key to this position. Lead Carpenters must be organized and good at planning ahead.

Tile Setter

We are seeking hard working, experienced tile setters who have worked on residential remodeling projects. This position requires math skills and the ability to quickly plan and layout a tile pattern in your head while thinking through all the potential issues that could arise.

Painter

We are seeking hard working, experienced painters (primarily interior painting) who have worked on residential remodeling projects. Experience working with a spray gun are a plus. Experience with drywall and plaster is a plus. This position requires attention to detail and precision.

Eco-Design Advisor

Eco-Design Advisor

This person will work directly with customers in the store to assist them in selecting and purchasing eco-friendly building materials. In addition to a good sense of home design, the best candidate will have a positive attitude and strong work ethic. This person should be detail oriented with outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Sharp communication skills, dependability, professional mannerism and great follow up are important as well. Schedule is somewhat flexible, but will need to be consistent and will include some evenings and weekends. This is a full-time position with some overtime available.

Work Experience Requirements:
-Experience in interior design / home improvement / new construction / remodeling.
-Excellent communication and written skills.
-Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
-Must have exceptional organizational skills.
-Retail experience and professional sales training is a plus.
-Knowledge of and experience with sustainable building solutions is also beneficial.

Job Functions:
– Coordinate displays/samples in the store to ensure they are attractive and informative.
– Answer phones and interact with walk in consumers, contractors, developers, and suppliers.
– Help customers make eco-friendly home finish selections-counter tops, cabinets, flooring, hardware, fixtures, wall coverings, etc.
– Assist customers with paint sales. Use computer to look up paint formulas, print labels, tint paint, shake, label, and ring up.
-Monitor, maintain, and contribute to customer and data tracking system.
-Maintain files, procedures, reports, and record.
-Attend weekly team meetings and product training.
-Keep work space and show room organized and efficient, consistently improving systems.
-Coordinate and participate in community events like the Eco Experience at the State Fair.
-Work collaboratively as part of the team. Shadow and assist in design meetings with clients.
-Maintain salvage building materials, photograph, add to website.
-Smaller side projects may be assigned as we are a small company and need “all hands on deck”.

Compensation:
Negotiable based on relevant experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
• Your goal is to generate between $1-1.5M in annual design build revenue that meets profitability and customer satisfaction benchmarks
• Responsibilities include lead qualification, in home visits, budgetary estimate creation and presentation, scope of work creation, estimating, designing residential remodeling projects with Chief Architect software, project selections and preparing project for the handoff to production
• Design/sell basements, attics, kitchens, bathrooms, whole house, exteriors, porches, decks, and additions
• Design assistants available to help you with interior design and material/fixture selections if needed
• Help set and meet companywide green remodeling standards
• Base salary plus commissions with draw account offered and full benefits
• Many qualified company provided leads per year guaranteed (50 -100 typical plus handoffs of projects that are ready to move forward with design).
• Flexible schedule but expected to work up to one evening a week, potentially one Saturday a month and home shows or tours a few times a year

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Designer/salesperson with 5+ years remodeling experience, including additions, with an understanding of basic structural/mechanical, and familiarity with older homes and sustainable building practices
• Detailed professional with good communication skills
• Organized, honest, creative, efficient, driven, motivated individual
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture, Sustainable Design, Interior Design or related field
• Proficient in Chief Architect and Microsoft Word/Excel

Experience installing hardwoods, pre-finished wood, or cork a plus.  This position requires attention to detail and precision.
